Verizon Wireless is accusing Alltel Corp, the no. 5 wireless carrier in the country, of false advertising. According to the lawsuit which was filed in the federal court in Richmond, VA., only Alltel provides wireless customers a way to modify their calling plans without the need to extend the term of their contracts.

Vodafone has confirmed that Verizon Wireless, its affiliate in the US, has agreed to acquire Alltel Corp.for a total enterprise value of US$28.1 billion in cash and assumed debt. Alltel is the 5th largest mobile operator in the US, with over 13 million customers across 34 states in the US.
