The guys over at WMExperts have done a hands on review of the Toshiba Portege G810, I know I usually associate Toshiba with computers mainly and to be honest the specs on the Toshiba Portege G810 doesn’t exactly change that. So here they are, and don’t laugh..the Toshiba Portege G810 offers up Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro,

There's a trend among Windows Mobile smartphone makers - everyone and their mama is making custom user interfaces that sit on top of the Microsoft's mobile OS. We've seen HTC and Gigabyte doing it, and Sony Ericsson will rollout its own UI with the Xperia launch. Toshiba doesn't want to miss the boat, but they don't

Here's the new Toshiba Portege G810. Looks good huh - Well, yes and no. Up close it's plastic fantastic, the battery doesn't last long and those sexy buttons / navigation pad aren't the most practical things to use. Inside Windows Mobile Pro 6.1 has been given a face lift with Spb Mobile Shell, a chunky navigation GUI and a polished contacts system. The specs list shows a Qualcomm MSM7200 CPU runn

Toshiba and SPB have teamed up to make a new front end to the recently launched Portege G810.Working together, their goal it seems is to improve upon the windows mobile interface, much in the same way as HTC has tried to with the Touchflo and now TouchFlo 3D interface. In the following quote from the announcement, it would suggest that rather than go the way of Apple and totally designing their int

Hopes had been reasonably high that Toshiba's G810 would rest near the top of the keyboardless WinMo food chain for a while, but if PocketNow's review is any indication, that's a tall order. Problem numero uno -- which we didn't need a review to tell us, necessarily -- is that the completely tactile-free directional pad and accompanying buttons make using the darned thing a challenge, no matter ho

Brandon writes, "On 24 June 2008, Spb Software House, a well-respected company in the Windows Mobile software world, released a press release stating that the upcoming Toshiba Portege G810 would be the result of a collaboration between Toshiba and Spb to deliver "the ultimate mobile device experience." I applaud both companies for taking a new approach to delivering a Windows Mobile device, one th

In this video, I cover the hardware of the device. The hardware buttons are completely flat and thus difficult to feel for. The stylus is not only awkwardly placed, but feels cheap and unconventional. I was a bit surprised to find that the microSD slot had no covering, which could make it susceptible to accumulating dust and debris when no card is present. After having more time with the Spb Softw

How is the Toshiba Portege G810 different than any other device that has some Spb software thrown onto it? Well, it's really not. There are some interesting qualities of the hardware, which we'll get to later, but essentially what we have is an HTC Touch-like device with Spb Mobile Shell, Pocket Plus, and Full Screen Keyboard. And that's not a bad thing, because these software titles (especially t
