Remember the HTC Shift? It was HTCs first attempt at a super-portable laptop capable of running both Windows Vista and Windows Mobile. These days, wed be inclined to call it a netbook if not for its prohibitive price tag. Despite its innovative design and features, however, the HTC Shift never gained any traction in the

WM-Powered Tablet With Snapdragon There have been attempts over the years for devices with larger screens running energy-sipping processors and OSs, with varying degrees of (non)success, like the hybrid HTC Shift. One of the biggest problems was that for many years the ARM architecture just couldn't provide the necessary power to run applications at a level people expect, to compete with their desktop experience. Now with th...

This week I got my hands on LG's brand new and recently released LG X110 Netbook with embedded HSDPA which I want to test as an alternative to the HTC Shift UMPC. Since the LG X110 sports a massive 160 GB hard disk drive, I planned to partition it into two drives, C: and D: which I do with most of my PCs and Notebooks anyway. While C: holds the operating system (in this case Netbook-typical W...

Back when the device was first launched on Rogers, the HTC Shift X9501 was released with the promise that it would be getting a software update “within three months” that provided for GPS. However, four months have now passed and it looks what was once promised is not to be. In fact, Rogers is now stating

On my recent trip to New York to cover the T-Mobile G1 Android launch I traveled with just a backpack and used my Fujitsu U810 to write on the road. It was adequate, but the keyboard is quite small and limits how fast I can type. I reviewed the Sprint version HTC Shift back in March and one of the major flaws for me was the poor battery life. Paul at MoDaCo just posted a review of a new 3rd party ...

Back in August I posted about 2 new batteries for the HTC Shift from Mugen Power, the 4400mAh HLI-X9500ML @ $169.95 and the 6600mAh HLI-X9500XL @ $239.95. Well i'm pleased to say the batteries are now in production and shipping, and I have video'd the 6600mAh beast to give you an idea of what it's like compared to the standard battery, and how it looks on the Shift. Together with th...

Secrets of the HTC Shift revealed... enabling the GPS! Do you have a HTC Shift? Nice though the device is, it has been nagged by little quirks and missing features since launch that have blotted somewhat the ownership experience for many. Aside from the poor battery life (altho my Mugen Power battery has just arrived), the fact that the expected GPS didn't appear to be present, WiFi wasn't enabled from Snapvue and lack of SD access from Snap...
