Different Firmware For iPhone & iPad Until Fall 2010? It is always very exciting when there is new firmware available for the iPhone, especially when the release brings many new features and enhancements. The current iPhone firmware is 3.1.3, having just recently been updated, and users are now feverishly waiting for a 4.0 release. As many may be aware, the Apple iPad, scheduled to be released near the end of April 2010, also runs iPhone OS, however ...

Thanks to intrepid iPhone problem-solver and electrical engineer Renaud, tethered jailbreaking may become a thing of the past. The iDongle holds a standard 9-volt (PP3) battery and has its own dock connector to link up to an iPhone 3GS running firmware 3.1, 3.1.1 or 3.1.2. As any iPhone user knows, only bundled Apple software like the iPod app will run in the background while your phone is doing other things. Now AppleInsider reports this is all about to change. Third-party applications will be allowed to run in the background in iPhone OS 4.0, the next step in iPhone firmware development. Ouch. One of our writers, Brandon S, learned the hard way that uninstalling the spoof 3.1.3 patch (which merely fools iTunes and apps into thinking youre on 3.1.3)  is a little more complicated than your usual tweak and certainly more complicated than I had stated in my previous post (just uninstall it). My sincere

Daring Fireball Predicts a June Launch of iPhone OS 4.0 Specialists and analysts have the gift of getting predictions right, specially in the tech biz, so we might believe Daring Fireball when it says that the iPhone OS 4.0 is coming in June. Also, the same source claims well be seeing the 4.1 firmware available in September or October. Its very likely that the release of

Shhh. I upgraded to firmware 3.1.3, but not really. Keep in mind, though: this tweak only applies to iPhones on 3.1.2. BigBoss released a tweak on Cydia (and consequently Rock) yesterday that fools both your iPhone and iTunes into thinking your 3.1.2 device is actually on the latest, feature-less, firmware. You wont gain any new features,

Samsung Galaxy Spica comes to Rogers Granted, they got off to a slow start -- but every since the Dream and Magic originally launched, Rogers has done a pretty commendable job of leading the Android charge north of the border. Latest in the line is Samsung's venerable i5700 Galaxy Spica, a phone that won't win any awards for running up-to-date firmware (it still rocks Cupcake) nor any medals for being high-end (the camera&#...

Sony Ericssons Satio got a fair bit of bad press in the past due to its um extremely buggy software. Even though hotfixes have improved the situation quite a bit, a few critical features are still missing. The official Satio blog now claims that an update is in the works. It will add the
